Essex Knocks Off Mt Ayr in Five

Essex went on the road Monday night and opened the season with a five set win over Mount Ayr.

Daiton Martin racked up 26 kills and 24 dig for Essex who survived 25-22, 24-26, 25-17, 19-25, 15-12 to defeat the Raiders who entered the night 2-0 on the season.

Kelsi Leininger added another 25 kills for Essex who was playing in its first game of the season. 

"All the girls played really scrappy tonight. Kelsi and Daiton really showed their leadership tonight by stepping in and taking balls all over the court," said Essex head coach Bailey Hunt.  "Elise Dailey stepped up as a freshman and played tough. I'm really proud of how hard she has been working and her hard work shows on the court"

Elise Dailey and Blu Ossian combined for another 17 kills.  Abby Lindburg and Lexi Burnison accounted for 32 assists.
