Essex won sets three and four to break a 1-1 tie with East Mills Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Corner Conference Volleyball Tournament in Sidney to earn a second stright berth in the championship game.
Top seeded Sidney held up its end of the bargain in the nightcap with a 9-14-14 sweep of fifth seeded Fremont-Mills. The Lady Knights had pulled off a minor upset of fourth seeded Stanton in the quarterfinals, avenging an earlier loss and earning a place in the semifinals against the Cowgirls.
Essex (15-4) swept Heartland in the quarterfinals and East Mills (19-9) did the same to South Page to set up a much awaited semifinal matchup. Daiton Martin recorded her 1000th career kill for the Trojanettes who seek to avenge last years loss to Sidney in the conference final.
Sidney (23-3) had no trouble with Academy in the first round Monday night. Fremont-Mills was the last Corner Conference team to beat Sidney, outlasting the Cowgirls in a thrilling five setter in the 2014 regional semifinals, but they were no match for the defending champs Tuesday night
